A couple of weeks ago, your school had rock star and grandparents’ day. All of your grandparents live 10 hours away, but you called and invited your Mimi and Papa to come. It’s hard not having our family here, for days like this and birthday parties and really just to invite them over to spend the day with. We miss them all of the time. It has been so fortunate that we’ve gained some family close to home. You love them more than I could’ve imagined and they, you. You were really shy and embarrassed during your performance and while dancing, but you were happy. I’m so grateful for that.
You look about 17 these days.
I hope you know you are my life.
Your 7th birthday consisted of presents, birthday breakfast, spending your gift card on more presents (two stuffed animal cats, a pooping dog, and a peeing cat - of course), and lunch at your favorite restaurant where they tried to put a sombrero on your head and ended up singing happy birthday to a hiding-under-the-table you. ;) I’m so lucky to have spent seven whole years with you. I can’t ever express my gratitude enough. Happy birthday, my little monkey.
You’ve been excited about a silly tradition that our family-to-be has been doing since Lauren was a kid herself, which is taking a bite of the birthday cake. Last year, you were too shy and almost this year too, but you have been talking about it nonstop so right as everyone thought you wouldn’t do it (maybe you were just going for the dramatic effect), you went for it.
Your 7th birthday party was an indoor pool party with some of your best friends. You had a blast and ended up swimming until 8:30 at night, way past the party.
This year was your golden birthday. We made it a pretty big deal around here.
